Side story 19.1

Tarkan fell silent when he saw the expression on his wife’s face, as if the world had collapsed.

He wasn’t sure whether he should be bewildered, baffled, or speechless.

With a mix of all three emotions, Tarkan asked, “You don’t remember?”

“Remember what?”

“This was you.”

“Me?”

Aristine slowly looked back and forth between her hands and her husband’s chest.

After doing that for a while, she seemed to regain a faint recollection of her actions. The sight of her hand fiercely gripping Tarkan’s chest.

“Oh, so it was me.”

Aristine smiled in relief.

“I thought it was someone else, so I was shocked for a second.”

“…That’s what shocked you?”

“Hm? Why else would I be shocked?”

Usually, people are shocked by their own misconduct(?) when they are out of their senses. Yet, here she was, so confident after teasing(?) him to her heart’s content.

“This is mine to begin with.”

Aristine placed her hand firmly on Tarkan’s chest.

“I just touched what’s mine. What’s the problem? The real problem would be someone else touching it without permission.”

“What kind of reasoning is that?”

Tsk, Tarkan clicked his tongue. But a bashful smile arose on his face when he turned his head.

‘So when she looked like the world was ending…?’

It was because she thought someone else touched her chest?

‘Ahem, ahem! No need to feel so possessive.’

He’d heard from other married men that possessiveness and obsession should not go beyond a certain level.

《Your Majesty Tarkan, do you understand what I mean? You have to do it in moderation. Moderation!》

《It is said that going overboard is just as bad as doing too little.》

《The key to a smooth marital life is avoiding obsessing too much about the other party.》

《Your Majesty, how do you think I have maintained a harmonious relationship with my wife for over 30 years? It’s all because I trust and support my wife in everything she does.》

It’s obvious what they were really trying to say.

[So, will you stop glaring at the men who talk to Her Majesty Aristine?!]

[Every time I make a report, I feel like my life is in danger!]

[And it’s not just men—you even glare at women like Umiru!!]

They were basically telling him, ‘you’re too obsessed with your wife, tone it down’.

Especially since Aristine was a very curious person and the type to drop formalities and strike up conversations with people wherever she went.

Those who answered Aristine’s questions often found themselves choking under Tarkan’s sharp gaze.

《Do not worry, Noble Lords. I always trust and support whatever my wife does.》

However, Tarkan interpreted their words in an entirely different manner.

‘I just need to keep doing what I’m doing.’

His wife, Aristine, was so unpredictable that you could never know where she would do next.

No matter what it was, Tarkan was always there to cover for her, support, and help her.

‘I’ve never claimed ownership over anything of hers.’

He had never once tried to covet her business ventures.

‘I know Rineh would absolutely hate that.’

In a sense, Aristine was obsessed with doing business.

The moment Tarkan tried to take over one of her projects, she’d bristle like a cat that had its fish stolen.

Certainly, there was nothing wrong with listening to the advice of other husbands.

‘…But I guess it doesn’t apply here.’

Tarkan found Aristine’s possessiveness and claim over his chest quite endearing.

He hoped she would continue.

‘I should add 500 more push-ups to my morning training. And increase the weight in my strength exercises…’

If the warriors knew of Tarkan’s resolve, they would start crying and trying to stop him, saying, ‘Please spare us, Your Majesty! If you increase it anymore, we’ll die!’.

How could the warriors slack off when their lord and emperor was training so hard?

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, the warriors were still blissfully unaware of Tarkan’s plan.

‘A hardworking husband is a loved husband.’

While thinking that, Tarkan subtly pressed his pecs against Aristine’s cheek.

Like a pillow.

“Sleep more. You need to rest.”

“Mm…”

Aristine smiled and closed her eyes.

Pat, pat.

The rhythmic tapping on her back felt soothing.

Tarkan watched as Aristine completely relaxed in his arms.

Then he looked up…

“…”

And found Umiru and the court ladies standing there.

Umiru looked right into Tarkan’s eyes and closed the door from the same spot.

Clack.

The moment the door closed, Umiru laughed in disbelief.

“Wow, I’m speechless.”

She came to check on Aristine’s condition, so she opened the door, and you can imagine what she found.

She thought Aristine might be asleep, so she opened it as quietly as possible…

“Then he looks at me like I’m an uninvited guest? He should be apologizing to my poor eyes. Did you see him subtly flexing just now?”

Umiru clicked her tongue.

Despite her chagrin, the court ladies were giggling and applauding amongst themselves.

It was definitely a sight to see.
