I think in a chapter (forgot which one, sorry…) it mentioned that there are some magical devices from the time of the Madoh Empire still existing.
Other than the gates, at least one device was mentioned: the one in the shape of goblet (iirc) with water-like liquid inside, which could determine blood relativity when two people’s blood being dropped on it.
This device was used for Lucia’s and the former king’s (Kwiz’ father) blood, thus Lucia got acknowledgement as a princess
