I've read this story for the nth time (though not in chapter-order hahaaa...)
And when I re-read the part where Grandpa Baden told that the pendant was said to give luck to the owner, I think that's what it did to Lucia (as the wearer for a time, and so it then gave luck to the whole Baden family through her).
It's kinda like the 'Felix Felicis' potion in Harry Potter story, where it made one who drank the potion know what steps to do (however unlikely it was to other people's way of thinking) to make sure one's get to the intended target (thus it's called as 'lucky').
Here, after showing Lucia the possibility of a future if she does nothing, I think the pendant also showed Lucia a way to escape that scary future by making Lucia passed by the crowd where Hugh Taran was in, and got the idea of proposing a marriage contract to him.
Next, I think it's also the pendant that gave Lucia a chance to meet directly with the Duke at Taran mansion (with Jerome being away, the gate's kinda opened and it's Roy Krotin who first met her instead. Because what chance would she have to be able to talk to Hugh if Jerome was the one in charge as usual?)
I don't know.... Maybe it's just me. But I really have the 'Felix Felicis' vibe from the pendant here.
