Actually, I think Lucia didn’t care about her own reputation. And Hugh certainly didn’t care about his reputation, though he cared about Lucia’s.
But if Lucia stepped out without caring about ‘reputation’, the one would be ruined wasn’t only her reputation, or Hugh’s. It’s the whole Taran family, maybe even the North region.
And how about Damian? He knew nothing, and hadn’t made a debut in the society yet, and some nobles didn’t exactly accept him to be the Taran’s heir. Remember the party break in the North? That’s nothing compared to what would happen to him in the capital, especially after a big scandal of the Taran family happened.
Not to mention the Taran’s knights, the Taran’s household staff, etc. (like Fabian & Jerome). They would be affected somehow… in a bad way, of course.

I think it wold be better if the author settled the scheme with another one.
Roy could give his testimony based on the information the Intelligence Gathered about Count David. He was so obsessed with Lucia, she refuses him. David call her maid to put up his sexual preferences, as well creating a rumor that could affect the Royal family (Princess Katherine break room); as well implied on the New Nation Young Association, this could’ve been seen as treason.
At this time, the Magical tool would been “off” and she could be appointed as the mastermind behind this, as well as the thief. Hugh use this intel to spread the countess and David are seeing each other’s, and planned everything.
But it’s my concern that the author designed Roy as a blunt, Silly and stupid character.
