Disregarding the fact that her own father didn’t give a single wit about his children, at no point in this story has she displayed the kind of naïveté that would assume ‘oh, he doesn’t love him so he must not actually be his father, because all fathers automatically love their children’. I could understand if she questioned their relationship with some other reasoning, but this just seems very out of place.
